CARBONIFEROUS VERTEBRATE REMAINS

An amphybian caudal vertebra was found on a hand specimen collected by the late Professor Ion Preda from Upper Carboniferous deposits of Zagradia, Resita Basin, in the South Carpathians. Professor Preda collected a substantial flora from Zagradia (Preda et al., 1984). It is so far the only tetrapod remain in the Upper Paleozoic of Romania. Ganoid fish were described from the same basin, in Lower Permian sequences, such as Palaeoniscus duvernoy AGASSIZ, by Eufrosin in 1946 (Eufrosin, 1957).
